Another hobby of mine (like I really need another!) is baking! I love to bake anything and everything! Mostly, I think, is from loving to eat it but really baking is a treat (no pun intended) and I love the smell of the kitchen when there is delicious desserts baking in the oven!

Today I looked on Hersheys.com for a sweet recipe (I promise I'm not trying!) and found "Perfectly Chocolate" Chocolate Cake and that just sounds amazing!

So here we go into the kitchen to bake a cake! some cupcakes!

First I like to get all of my needed items ready.
(Also, to make sure I have everything I need!)
Now we are beginning to make the cake batter!
Pile the sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large bowl
Stir all those ingredients together
It should look like this
Add the eggs, milk, oil and vanilla and mix for 2 minutes
Stir in the boiling water. It should be thin.
Now it's time to pour it into your cake pan or cupcake pan like I did :)
check out my cute cupcake liners :)
I like to use a 1/3 Cup measuring spoon to "pour" the batter into the
cupcake pan because otherwise, things could get really messy!

Here they are 2/3 C full of batter and ready to go into the oven!
While the cupcakes are baking I'm preparing the frosting
When you don't use or have a microwave, this is how you melt butter...
boiling water underneath a glass bowl or in this case a Pyrex measuring cup.
(Make sure it's a heavy glass though, otherwise melting or breaking could be
an issue! Safety first!)
Here's a fact you may not want to know...
In one can of soda you are drinking this much sugar!
Crazy isn't it? No wonder it taste's so good!
Once you have your butter melted, use a medium bowl to
beat together the butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, milk and cocoa.
Be sure to do this in order.
Melt butter. Stir in cocoa. Alternately add powdered
sugar and milk, beating to spreading consistency.
Add small amount of additional milk, if needed.  Stir in vanilla.

Yum...Homemade Chocolate Frosting!
Cupcake Timer Ringing!
I like the traditional toothpick testing method. If it comes
out clean then you have some baked cupcakes!
They are done and ready to take out to cool!
They look so good!
Just some more picture's to show you the texture of
these good lookin' cupcakes!
I use a table knife to gently maneuver the cakes out of
the pan. Be careful not to push against them to hard,
otherwise you will have a cupcake with a punched
in side.
Set them on the cooling rack until completely cooled.
Because I only have a six cupcakes pan I had to put several
batches in the oven. When you get to the end and don't
have enough batter to make the last couple then fill 1/3
of the cup with water so that you protect your pan and it will
distribute even baking throughout your pan.
After they are completely cool. Start Frosting!
and they are done!
Now Eat One! :)
This recipe gives you a moist texture
 that is somewhere between a
fudge brownie and a cake!

Hope you enjoyed the night in the kitchen with

Did you know???

Making your own desserts can be healthier! Use skim milk and even a sugar substitute like Stevia. (A natural herbal sweetener) I would not recommend Splenda or any other type of artificial sweetener because they are un-natural and hard for your body to break down and can cause illness. When you are baking at home, you can use real vanilla too instead of an artificial flavor like most store bought cake mixes use.

Enjoy the sweetness of all-natural desserts and get the real thing!
What a day this has been! I had to work today so I didn't get to the house to start painting till about 4:15pm. But, still got quite a bit done and had some fun hanging out with the hubby tonight too! :O)

First we tackled more of the kitchen...
(I know it seems like it's taking forever, but really it's just spread out over a couple weeks because of doing a little here and there!)
Oh, and you get to see the new picture's of the kitchen too!!!! Yay!
You can click here to see all the before pictures.
Joe is taking off the cabinet doors and as you can see all
the upper part of the walls are a beautiful medium gray!
Now, I think it's time you see some more put-together looking pictures to show that
we are making progress and part of it is looking really good! :)
We are completely in love with these colors :)
As you can see these cabinets are the last to be painted!
So nice to see something clean and put back together!
All we have left in the kitchen are some cabinets!

Now for a quick tip...

Problem: Cracks between trim/wall and when you paint it leaves a dark line. It doesn't give a clean look...
See how the top has the deep line? and no matter how much
paint you try to stuff in it it always comes back?
Solution: Nail Hole Filler. I showed you the other day the difference in these pictures.
On the bottom of this crack I used the nail hole filler that I picked up from Ace Hardware for just a couple bucks. Works like a charm! Then when you paint, it's perfectly seamless!
(and crackless!)

Next Project: Cleaning the top of the refrigerator.
(Yeah, you know how they get!)
It's always the last place you'd think of cleaning...
But, you know me. I'm OCD about a few things..
You will come to find that one of my top 5 favorite cleaning products
is the magic eraser. I use an off-brand kind called Xtreme Sponge which you can get
here.

Just wet your eraser with warm water, squeeze out the extra water and lightly rub the surface
and presto! You have a perfectly white and clean refrigerator!
Project Progress: Hallway

This is the wall color. It's the same as the kitchen.
This is the wall color finished.
The trim has been primed but not painted.
Priming the dark wood so we can paint it white.
Tried to get a different angle for you :)
This was taken from the doorway in the kitchen by the stove.
Our House Projects BATTLE WOUNDS....
be prepared for craziness...

Yeah, I was trying to make you have to move the page down a little bit so you couldn't see what these wounds are until you scroll down....

.......

haha okay, here you go...

Yep, he got me good.
But you know, I got him back better :)

But wouldn't you know he did it right back to me?????

Hah! I bet you thought we had actual wounds...
well actually, I do have a bleeding knuckle...one of the cabinets got feisty with me..

The night ended great with some messy, but oh so good, food!

Smores!!
It's been a cold, stormy day and night so I will leave you with this...
Hoping for a few warm, spring-like days real soon!!

Hallway Progress:
Before

We finally decided on a color for our hallway! Though it's small, it still needed painting. We decided that we would carry the medium gray color from in the kitchen into the hall because it would keep a good flow (and also because we have extra paint in that color and we're cheap!)

So here she is getting painted. (I apologize for the lighting, there's a bulb out in the hall and therefore not much light!)

shot from bathroom looking out into the hall
Yes. The hallway was half baby blue and half tan! :P

Will be posting finished pictures tomorrow sometime!

---L&J---

Yep, that's what I did and I'm showing you how..

First you need to get some good ole nail hole filler. I purchased mine from
Ace Hardware for $3 bucks.
Here are the crazy huge nail holes...
You can use a spackle brush to fill.
Or take a walk on the wild side and use your fingers to
apply the nail hole filler.

Now, I don't know if you remember (I forgot to take a before pic and can't find a good picture with it showing) but the trim had separated from the wall in several spots. I just used the nail filler to fill in those cracks! And Voila! Perfect, seamless finish!
Now, I know you are just dying to see some furniture in this room so....
....
...
..........
....
..
Just kidding, you have to wait till tomorrow to see the room!
