The hallway finally got finished with the help of my mom-in-law and gram-in-law!
So much painting! : )

Before
Progress
(I need to tackle that door!)

More Progress (going to hang a picture here!)

Loving it!
(I'm thinking a plant on this old phone cubby!)
You probably notice...but we used the color in the kitchen for in the hall since we had extra! and I have to say I love it! It carries into the hall extremely well!
Love it when things work out perfectly!

So exciting to have one room completely finished (except for maybe some art or sconces on the wall...hmm...) but really we are really happy with the simplicity for now!

Before
Successful Progress!
Can't wait to get some other little things in here!
Now to show you our journey of getting to this point! :)

First things first.
We find it is best to fill all your holes and wipe down all your trim and baseboards first. Along with cleaning your windows!

Next... Paint!

We chose Valspar's Filtered Shade color for
our dining room and completely love it!
Take a look at it here.
Wasn't very thrilled about this gold chandelier. So I had
one that I bought on Craigslist a couple months back for
cheap and spray painted it black!

Joe's Papaw is in town and taught us how to
do several things around the house!
Like hanging this chandelier! :)

Also, he helped by using his muscles and getting
the curtains hung up!
(Everyone who is in town this week is
helping us get all settled in way faster than
we thought we would!)
I took a down low project and didn't like the
sight of this alarm system gadget from way back
when..so here's what I did...
Got a cover for only a quarter!
It improves the look of the room so much!
Now to show off a house-warming gift from Gram :)

Isn't this awesome!? Perfect shade for our
dining room colors (Plum, Gray, White and Black)!
I'm in love with this vase and will buy some more
coffee beans to fill it up and stick my flower down
in it and it sits in the middle of the dining room table!
We have some incredibly thoughtful family :)
(with good taste too!)
This will have to be part one because of complications with the computer and photos...So these two posts will be marked "Part 1" and "Part 2" :)
Hope you are enjoying see what we've been doing in the dining room!
Today I got to decorate a little bit! :)

I like to completely clean and disinfect every thing before starting to decorate a room! So naturally, I grabbed the cleaners and Murphy's Oil Soap, opened the window and went to town cleaning the bathroom. I scrubbed the tub, scrubbed the sink, scrubbed the floors and wiped the mirror! (and I cleaned the toilet too, but I really dislike the word "toilet" so let's say commode haha)

After all the dirty work... I had a fresh, clean room to work in!
So I took the before pictures and started placing items in the room and here's what I came up with as progress for today!

Progress
Just needs one more thing!
Before
haha didn't notice the shower curtain in the middle of
the picture when I took it! :P

We have a few more ideas! :)

By the way, this tub is super clean!
Just has a stain that I can't seem to remedy!
It has been bleached though so you can rest at ease :)

After
Ah, The Remedy :)
Now there are still a couple more things that I am working on....
I'm working on some really cute art
for above the commode :)
I will have a blog post about it when I
finish them up!

And this door needs something...or the walls...
can't decide what to do yet..
I might see if some dark bronze sconces
work there on the right side? I have some
already so it would be a freebie! ;)
Think. Think. Think.
Okay, I'm off to work on this art so we can all see what it looks like! :)

Dilemma: Our kitchen hardware was black. We both knew there was some type of metal underneath and found that it was copper. We didn't want to spend the money to replace the hardware, but we needed to find a way to clean it, and clean it GOOD! :)

Solution: Joe had heard somewhere that vinegar was a natural cleaning agent. So we googled what people had done and decided to try some of the tips we had heard.

Here's the HUGE difference cleaning these
little guys made! *Happy Dance*
Soaking all the hardware. (The toothbrush method of cleaning
off all the grime didn't work for us. I think it's because there was
a lot of grime and tarnish from 60 years of existence!)

Now after some light scrubbing with the SOS Pads...
Check out this comparison!

I am so completely impressed with this snazzy trick
of how to clean your kitchen hardware! :)

I couldn't wait to put a couple on the drawers and cabinets
to see how good they look!

Screwing on the cabinet handle :)
We are looking good so far! :D

Want to give your cabinets a makeover?

What you need:
White Vinegar
Large Bowl or Container
SOS Pads (the cheap ones 'cause you will need several of them!)

What you want to do:
1. Remove all the hardware and screws from your cabinets (if you haven't already!)
2. Put them all into a glass bowl or a plastic container
3. Pour white vinegar over them all and use enough to cover all the hardware in your container.
4. Let soak for several hours. (We let ours soak overnight!)
5. Use an SOS pad to scrub your hardware, Rinse. Completely dry.
6. Mount your hardware back onto your cabinets!

(As with all things, check on the back side of one of your hardware pieces to make sure that you aren't scratching or damaging your hardware with the SOS pad.)

This is an all-day project.  The time it takes to take down all your cabinets, take off all of the hardware, soaking and scrubbing, then attaching it all back is quite a day depending on how many cabinets you have. Maybe take a weekend and tackle this project! :)
